9 Places to Get Computer Help
1. Computer Help Files – Many of us forget the really detailed and neat help files that are on every computer’s operating system and the computer system itself. Help files are designed not only to guide the usage of a computer; they're also designed to solve problems.
Inside a help file, look for a section called, "Troubleshooting", or something similar. This is a function that usually scans the system or the particular problem area and offers ways to resolve it. Windows systems offer this in a neat step-by-step wizard format. This section is reserved for solving problems specific to the software or hardware that you're using.
2. Product Manuals – Every computer product comes with a manual and often times there are troubleshooting pages, which highlight typical issues and fixes.
3. Particular Product Websites - Sometimes the best places to find computer support and help with either software or hardware is to go to the manufacturers website. Most every manufacturer’s reserve a portion of their site for support, product manuals, and either email, chat or phone support.
4. General Tech Forums and Product Forums – These are great places to find answers to most any questions and the beauty of it is that you can post your own particular question and get responses from other members.
Many times there are pros on these sites that will help you solve your computer problems. Their free help is immeasurable and without it, we wouldn't have some of the wonderful workarounds and unique problem solving techniques that we have today.
5. Answer Sites – Sites that answer posted questions are fantastic at getting experts to help you solve computer issues. Some of the best ones are Mahalo, Yahoo Answers and Wiki Answers.
6. Google Search – There is no one like Google for searching out information. You would be amazed at the results you will get just by searching for the exact phrase that describes your computer issue. Then browse the results and see what kind on information you can get.
7. Computer Support Lines - Another source for help that we shouldn't forget are the support systems of various manufacturers. You can reach these systems by calling the phone number associated with the product that you're having trouble with.
8. PC Support Groups - These are groups that meet in libraries, computer stores, or other local areas and they discuss all sorts of issues related with a particular product. Often times the Internet forums as mentioned previously is a faster way but some people prefer to interact and get their questions answered in person.
9. Computer Stores – Any computer store has salespersons that are usually knowledgeable about the products they sell. And if you can go back to the store where you purchased then you will probably get even better and more detailed service being that you are a customer. This should be a last resort, unless the problem is with a defect issue open the computer. Also, these clerks can often help you resolve an issue over the phone and prevent you from having to buy a costly solution.
Computer help is easy to find, if you get creative and persistent and can you save you a lot of money that a technician may charge to solve simple problems that you can fix yourself.
