Computer Case Guide
There is a large variety of shapes and sizes of computer cases and towers. The old school models, such as the full tower case are still very popular because they offer lots of expansion space.
Mid-Tower Computer CaseWhile the midtower box now comes in a variety of colors, but the design remains the same with several internal and external drive bays, several PCI options and slots for expansion, and lots of different ports on the front and the back for all types of peripherals.

All-in-One Computer Case
First made popular by the iMac, the all-in-one computer desktop is a computer case with a built-in monitor. Depending on the brand, the internal computer components, such as the processor, hard drive and memory are either in the in the bas
e or hidden behind the flat-panel display itself. The all-in-one computer does limit expansion, but several boast advanced features, such as DVD burners and TV tuners. This design is most efficient because the monitor and the computer are enclosed in a single box so they take up much less space than the traditional computer towers. (Image: HP Touchsmart IQ770)
Small Form Factor CaseThe small-form-factor computer case design is changing because it is starting to become dated, but its doubtful it will disappear completely because they are still able to hold a number of features, all though the ultra small cases cannot hold expansion cards. This means that if you need a computer for gaming, digital video encoding and other tasks that require a PCI or PCI express cards a bigger case will be needed.
Living Room - Home Theater Friendly CaseThe living friendly case comes with a small percentage of media center computers and are designed as low, wide cases that will blend nicely among cable boxes, DVD players and video game consoles in a traditional home theater set up. They are also called, "A/V-style" or "rack-mount systems." Sometimes with this computer case design you will sacrifice upgrade capability via expansion slots for the aesthetics.
