What is Computer Hardware?


While the language of computer programming seems very complex, it is actually a simple series of 1’s and 0’s that are repeated in a series to create what we actually see on out computers, but there are a lot of components to a computer.

A personal computer is actually a system, which consists of many parts and components. Some of those are software, such as various programs, like Windows operating systems, games, Word, spyware and other components are computer hardware. Computer hardware refers to all the components you can actually feel, touch and break. Hence the name HARDware.

Computer Hardware Includes:
The Computer Tower - The main computer tower, all the stuff inside is computer hardware:

 - CPU
 - RAM memory
 - Hard Disk – Everything that is “on the computer” is actually stored on the hard disk.
 - Optical Drives – DVD/CD/Blu Ray Drives
 - Motherboard
 - Monitor and Screen
 - Keyboard
 - Mouse
 - Speakers

While hardware such as keyboards, mouse, speakers and printers are referred to as peripherals; they are still included in the category of computer hardware.

So, anything that is able to be touched, moved and felt is computer hardware, while programs that are installed and run on the computer are called software.
